New Delhi: The Central Government has disbursed a substantial sum of ₹18,716.67 crore to various states under multiple disaster relief and mitigation schemes for the financial year 2025–26, according to an official statement released on Sunday.
Advance Relief for Karnataka and Maharashtra
Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved the advance release of ₹1,950.80 crore as the second instalment of the Centre’s share under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Karnataka and Maharashtra.
The funds aim to support immediate relief efforts for people affected by extremely heavy rainfall and floods during this year’s south-west monsoon.

Maximum NDRF Deployment During Monsoon
This year’s monsoon season saw the highest-ever deployment of 199 NDRF teams across 30 States and Union Territories for rescue and relief operations in flood, landslide, and cloudburst-affected areas. The Centre also mobilized Army and Air Force teams to assist in emergency response.
Additional Aid to Assam and Gujarat
Earlier in October, a High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Amit Shah approved ₹707.97 crore in additional Central assistance to Assam and Gujarat for damages caused by floods and landslides in 2024:
This assistance was drawn from the NDRF, with a condition to adjust 50% of the opening balance available in the respective states’ SDRF.
Fire Services Modernisation in Three States
The HLC also sanctioned ₹903.67 crore under the NDRF for the Expansion and Modernisation of Fire Services in:
