On Monday, a tanker transporting diesel from Gorakhpur to a petrol pump in the Bilariaganj police station area met with an accident near the electricity substation at Maltari-Mirzapur, within the Jiyanpur Kotwali area.
A transformer mounted on an electric pole also fell down. Immediately following this, a massive fire broke out in the tanker, accompanied by a loud explosion.
The fire was so intense that bystanders could not approach the tanker despite wanting to help. Within moments, towering flames engulfed the entire vehicle. Upon receiving news of the accident, police and fire department teams rushed to the scene. Six fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
It took hours of strenuous effort to bring the fire under control, but by then, the tanker had been completely gutted. Three people were burned to death in this horrific accident.
Among the deceased was 26-year-old Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Bhikhampur village in the Mehnagar police station area. His family was devastated by the news of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the police are attempting to identify the other two victims. The site has been cordoned off, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Detailed information will be released once the identities of the deceased and other facts have been confirmed.
