Hoshiarpur: BJP Leader Vijay Sampla Allegedly Attacked With Microphone During Ambedkar Statue Protest

Hoshiarpur: A tense situation unfolded in Badian Kalan village of Hoshiarpur amid a protest over the alleged damage to a statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The situation escalated when senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla reached the spot along with Punjab BJP SC Morcha president and former Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural and Hoshiarpur BJP district president Nitin Gupta Nannu.

BSP leaders and workers were already present at the location, protesting over the alleged damage to the Ambedkar statue. According to reports, a verbal exchange broke out between the two sides after BJP leaders arrived at the protest site.

Sampla Allegedly Hit With Microphone

The confrontation intensified when Sampla attempted to address the gathering using a microphone. Videos from the spot show people objecting as he tried to speak, following which an individual appears to move towards him and take hold of the microphone.

The individual is then seen allegedly using the microphone to strike Sampla during the confrontation. Reports from the spot said Sampla suffered scratches and injuries, although the exact nature and extent of his injuries have not been officially clarified.

Son Tries To Intervene, Police Step In

Sampla’s son was also reportedly present at the gathering and can be seen near him in the visuals. During the alleged attack, he appears to move towards his father as the situation turns into a scuffle.

Supporters and workers from both sides subsequently became involved in the confrontation. Police personnel present at the spot intervened and attempted to separate those involved. Videos also show Sheetal Angural and others moving towards the person allegedly involved in the assault as police tried to bring the situation under control.

Investigation Underway

The incident comes amid heightened tension in Badian Kalan following the alleged damage to the Ambedkar statue. Police have taken control of the situation, while further details regarding the confrontation and the alleged assault are awaited.

Authorities are expected to examine available video footage and record statements from people who witnessed the incident. The identity of the person allegedly involved in the attack, the exact sequence of events and the extent of Sampla’s injuries are yet to be officially established.
