According to officials, the incident occurred around 4 PM while the child was playing near the borewell outside his home. Preliminary reports stated that the borewell was around 250 feet deep, though authorities believed the child became trapped in the loose soil surrounding the pipe at a shallower depth.

The child was immediately admitted to the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur. I have personally issued strict instructions to the doctors and concerned officials to ensure that the child receives the utmost care during treatment. No stone should be left unturned in his medical care, and he must be provided with the best possible healthcare facilities.

Massive Multi-Agency Rescue Operation

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire brigade, and health department were deployed immediately after the incident. Four JCB machines were used to dig a parallel trench in an attempt to safely reach the child.

Officials confirmed that oxygen was continuously supplied into the pit during the operation. A camera lowered inside reportedly captured signs of movement, indicating that the child was alive throughout the rescue efforts.

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, Punjab minister Ravjot Singh, and AAP MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal visited the site to monitor the operation. Floodlights and emergency arrangements were put in place to allow rescue teams to continue work overnight.

After nearly nine hours of continuous efforts, rescue teams successfully pulled the child out of the borewell. He was immediately shifted for medical examination and treatment.

Safety Concerns Over Open Borewells

Police officials stated that the borewell had been dug nearly two weeks earlier for water extraction and a pipe had been installed. However, the surrounding excavation area was reportedly not fully refilled with soil, which may have caused the child to slip into the gap beside the pipe.

Volunteers from the social organisation Baba Deep Singh Sewa Dal also assisted the administration during the rescue mission.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about safety measures around open and abandoned borewells in rural India, where similar accidents have been reported in the past.
