Four Killed as Car Collides with bus in Hoshiarpur Amid Dense Fog

Hoshiarpur: A car and a bus collided in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, amid morning fog. Four people were killed and a fifth person was seriously injured. The accident occurred around 5:30 am.

At that moment, a car coming from Himachal Pradesh was crossing the main road from the link road in Hoshiarpur when a bus coming from Dasuha collided with it. The impact was so severe that the car was completely destroyed.

Car Dragged 200 Meters After Impact

The bus dragged the car for about 200 meters, then crashed into nearby slums. However, no one lived there, so there were no casualties. The accident caused a traffic jam on the road.

Upon receiving information about the incident, SHO Kiran Singh of Haryana Police Station arrived at the scene with a police team. The damaged vehicles were removed from the road and traffic was restored.

Victims Identified as Residents of Una, Himachal Pradesh

Initial investigation revealed that the deceased youth were residents of Una, Himachal Pradesh. The four men were on their way to Amritsar airport to drop off their nephew for a foreign trip. The car’s number is reported to be HP72 6869.

A resident of Chalet, Una, Himachal Pradesh, who arrived at the scene, said, “My nephew was travelling to Dubai. There were four of my brothers in the car, and all four of them died. One of the deceased was a retired Army veteran, and one was driver. The other three were farmers.”

Meanwhile, cold winds blowing from the mountains have increased the chill in Punjab and Chandigarh. According to the Meteorological Center (IMD), Chandigarh, there is no hope of relief from the cold today (Saturday) and tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued for cold wave and dense fog. In Chandigarh, the Museum Tower at Sukhna Lake is also shrouded in dense fog.

Yellow Alert Issued for Cold Wave and Fog

Meanwhile, dense fog is predicted in 10 districts of Punjab, a cold wave in five districts, and a cold day in six districts. Jalandhar and Amritsar have been covered in dense fog since Saturday morning, resulting in poor visibility. This has caused significant inconvenience to motorists.

Meanwhile, cold waves may occur in some areas of five districts: Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa. Similarly, some areas in Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala may experience extreme cold even during the day.

However, the Punjab Meteorological Department says that this year has been less cold than in previous years. The lowest temperature recorded so far was 4.4 degrees Celsius in Bathinda. Cold days were also recorded in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Patiala on Friday.

Such weather has been created due to strong western winds.

According to the Meteorological Department, at present a system is formed in the air above North Pakistan and the nearby Punjab region. It is at an altitude of about 3 to 4.5 kilometers, due to which the weather is changing. A rotating system of air is also formed above Haryana at an altitude of about 1.5 kilometers. Strong western winds are blowing at a very high altitude above North India, due to which the weather remains cool. Even though the sun is not rising.

Lowest Temperature Recorded at 4.4°C in Bathinda

Minimum temperature in Punjab and Chandigarh was recorded between 4.4 degrees to 7.6 degrees. Meaning the nights have become very cold. Minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 6.1 degrees, in Amritsar 6.3, in Ludhiana 6.2 degrees, in Patiala 5.4 degrees, in Pathankot 7.1 degrees, in Bathinda 4.4 degrees, in Pathankot 5.8 degrees, in Gurdaspur 4.8 degrees, in SBS Nagar 5.2 degrees, in Mansa 6.4 degrees. Whereas maximum temperature was recorded between 11 to 18 degrees.

Less cold compared to previous years.

According to the Meteorological Department, if we look at the weather of the last ten years, then this time there has not been any winter yet. In the year 2013, the temperature in some places dropped to -3°C (close to the all-time low). Whereas in the years 2014 to 2017, it was a little colder than normal. The minimum temperature mostly remained between 5-10°C. But there were no major records.

The year 2018 was extremely cold. Amritsar recorded a temperature of 1.2°C, while Bathinda recorded a temperature of 3.5°C. Amritsar was colder than Shimla during this period. However, the years 2019 and 2020 were colder than average. Cold waves lasted for a few spells, but were mild. 2021 was colder than normal.

The average minimum temperature was 7-10°C. 2022 was mildly cold, with temperatures ranging from 8-12°C. 2023 was moderately cold. 2024 was colder, with some places recording temperatures as low as 0°C (Faridkot 0°C, Ludhiana 1°C). 2025 was similarly cold, with moderate or mild temperatures. However, a cold wave alert is still in effect for the new year.
