House explosion in Andhra Pradesh, 5 killed, 20 injured

New Delhi: Five people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion in a house in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Kummaravandla Palli village of Kadiri Mandal.

The entire house collapsed after detonators and a gas cylinder kept in a laborer’s house exploded.

Deaths and Damage

The powerful blast also damaged several nearby houses.

The injured have been admitted to a government hospital, 12 of whom are said to be in critical condition.

Relief and rescue operations underway

Firefighters and police arrived at the scene and began rescue and relief operations.

Four detonators were found in the house.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Initial information suggests the explosives and gas cylinders were stored illegally.

Government Response and Investigation Ordered

Home Minister V. Anitha expressed deep sorrow over the incident and sought full information from officials.

She directed that the injured be provided with the best possible treatment and that relief efforts be expedited.

Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu also expressed grief over the incident and directed that a special medical team be deployed for the injured.

The administration has ordered a detailed investigation into the storage of detonators and vowed to take strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
