Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement posted on X that a drone struck the refinery in what he described as a “precise” attack.

According to Saree, the operation was carried out in retaliation for what the Houthis described as Saudi drone incursions into the airspace of Saada and Hajjah, two Houthi-held provinces in northern Yemen along the Saudi border.

The Houthis did not provide evidence of the claimed attack or details about any possible damage or casualties.

Saudi Arabia Confirms Fire at Aramco Facility

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said that industrial security firefighting teams of Saudi Aramco had extinguished a fire at one of the facilities of the Saudi Aramco refinery in Jazan.

The ministry said there were no injuries reported in the incident. The fire broke out early Sunday, and relevant authorities were completing procedures to address the incident.

However, the ministry did not specify the cause of the fire.

The Saudi statement therefore did not independently confirm the Houthi claim that the facility had been targeted by a drone.

Tensions Between Houthis and Saudi Arabia Escalate

The latest claim comes amid rising tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

On July 20, the Houthis announced a maritime ban on Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea, citing what they described as a Saudi blockade of Houthi-held areas.

The group has also claimed multiple attacks targeting Saudi-linked vessels, energy facilities and airports, while the Saudi-led coalition has resumed limited airstrikes against key Houthi military targets in Yemen.

Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized control of large parts of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised Yemeni government.

The latest incident adds to concerns over a renewed escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, particularly around energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the region.
