“Our people were devastated by the disaster, homes were washed away, lives were shattered. But alas, the central government has not yet issued a special relief package. When the blow of time is the heaviest, the wait for relief becomes even more painful. We have tried to provide help to every victim with our limited resources, because we know that timely relief is the real relief. Now when the suffering of the people is skyrocketing, whom is the silence of the center serving? Will the disaster also be weighed on the scales of politics now? We again urge the central government not to delay now, and immediately issue a special disaster package.”

Last year too, many areas suffered heavy losses during monsoon. This year too, property worth more than Rs 2800 crore has been destroyed. Chief Minister Sukhu said, till now not even a single rupee has been received as special relief package. The budget received till now from the Centre was due to be received under SDRF.

Chief Minister Sukhu said that the state government is helping the disaster affected people with its own resources. Those whose houses are damaged are being given Rs. 7 lakhs. Rs. 70 thousand for household items and clothes, those whose houses are partially damaged are being given Rs. 25 thousand to Rs. 1 lakh, those whose livestock is damaged are being given Rs. 55 thousand.

The Chief Minister has urged the Central Government to release the relief amount without any delay, so that the affected families can be given the relief amount on time.
