HP Tourism: Millions of Tourists Arrive to Escape the Heat; Record Crowds at Tourist Spots

To escape the scorching heat currently gripping the plains, a massive influx of tourists has descended upon Himachal Pradesh’s tourist destinations in recent days. Driven by weekends and summer vacations, record-breaking crowds are being witnessed at the state’s major tourist hubs, including Shimla, Manali, and Dalhousie. Families and young people from numerous states—including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh—are heading toward the mountains in large numbers. The impact of this massive tourist influx is clearly visible on the state’s roads.

Long Queues of Vehicles Forming

Over the past few days, hundreds of thousands of tourist vehicles have entered and moved through the state. Long queues of vehicles are forming not only on the main access routes to tourist spots but also on the internal roads within the cities. However, the growing number of tourists has provided a significant boost to the state’s tourism economy. A robust surge in business is being observed among hotels, homestays, taxi operators, and tour and travel agencies. Hotels in destinations such as Kasauli and Chail are running at near-full capacity, and advance bookings continue to rise steadily.

State Police and Administration on High Alert

In view of the crowds and the resulting traffic congestion, the Himachal Pradesh Police and administration have shifted into high-alert mode. Additional police personnel, motorcycle traffic riders, and interceptor vehicles have been deployed to manage traffic flow.

The police are continuously appealing to tourists to adhere to traffic regulations, refrain from illegal roadside parking, and avoid unruly behavior, ensuring that order is maintained throughout the tourism season. Gajendra Chand Thakur, Chairman of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations, stated that tourists from across the country are flocking to Himachal’s destinations to find respite from the intense heat in the plains states, thereby driving a boom in the tourism sector. The steady stream of tourists arriving in the state is expected to continue in the coming weeks as well.
