HRTC conductor dies after being hit by falling rocks on Khanjar route

A heart-wrenching incident shook everyone on Thursday morning in the beautiful yet rugged Mayar Valley of Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. Gyan Singh, a conductor with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Keylong Depot, lost his life in a tragic accident. The incident occurred while the bus was returning, unable to reach its intended destination.

Details of the incident: According to reports, the HRTC bus had departed from Udaipur on Wednesday, bound for the Khanjar route in Mayar Valley. However, the bus could not proceed beyond Karpat due to a damaged road. On Thursday morning, the bus was returning towards Udaipur. At approximately 7:10 AM, near Dhondal Nala, conductor Gyan Singh was washing his hands and face near the stream. Suddenly, a large boulder falling from the hillside struck his head with such force that he died on the spot.

Identity and background of the deceased

The deceased has been identified as Gyan Singh, a resident of Panjalag village in the Ladbharol Tehsil of Mandi district. His passing has sent a wave of grief across the region.

Notification and rescue operations

Upon learning of the tragic incident, the bus driver and locals immediately informed the Udaipur police station. A police team promptly arrived at the scene and completed the necessary legal formalities. The body has been sent to the Regional Hospital in Keylong for a post-mortem examination. Dr. Manoj Kumar Gandhi, who holds the additional charge of CMO Keylong, stated that the body would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem process is completed.
