50 new electric buses to be added to HRTC fleet this month

Fifty new electric buses will be added to the Himachal Road Transport Corporation’s fleet this month. New buses will then arrive in the new year. All these buses will operate on longer routes, with each bus having a travel distance of 200 kilometers. Charging stations for the electric buses will be installed at bus stops.

The arrival of these buses will also remove some older buses from the HRTC fleet. These buses will be purchased at a cost of ₹412 crore. All 297 buses will arrive in Himachal by the end of February. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri stated that 297 new electric buses are being added to the corporation’s fleet.

80 E-charging stations across state 

HRTC will establish 80 e-charging stations in the state. This will cover both urban and rural areas. HRTC has prepared a revised DPR for this purpose and submitted it to NABARD. After receiving approval, construction of the e-charging stations will begin. Initially, the plan was to build 53 e-charging stations in the state. A DPR was also prepared for this purpose, but now the corporation has made changes to it and decided to connect most areas of the state with this facility.

The revised DPR now proposes to build 80 charging stations instead of 53. The government is promoting e-vehicles to promote environmental protection. In view of this, e-buses are being purchased.
