HRTC Him Bus Card: 1.81 Lakh Cards issued for affordable Travel

There is immense enthusiasm among the public in Himachal Pradesh to obtain the ‘Him Bus Card’ under the subsidized bus travel scheme launched for women and other eligible categories. So far, approximately 181,000 Him Bus Cards have been issued across the state.

Large crowds continue to throng the Transport Corporation’s headquarters and other designated centers to get their cards made. The situation is such that applicants are currently facing a waiting period of about five days to receive their cards after submitting their applications.

In several locations, people have been queuing up since early morning. Officials state that the card issuance process is under increased pressure due to the continuously rising demand. Meanwhile, women who have not yet received their Him Bus Cards are currently required to pay the full fare on HRTC buses.

Under the scheme, cardholders are entitled to a concession on fares; however, due to the lack of a card, many women are being deprived of this benefit. This has led to visible resentment among passengers. In many buses, arguments have even broken out between women passengers and conductors regarding the fare.

Women are demanding the subsidized fare, while conductors, citing official regulations, insist that a valid card must be produced. Consequently, uncomfortable situations are arising in various places.

Transport Corporation officials have stated that the card issuance process will be expedited shortly to ensure that all eligible women receive their cards in a timely manner. Ajay Verma, Vice Chairman of the Transport Corporation, informed that over 150,000 cards have already been issued. Furthermore, the process of issuing the ‘Him Bus Plus Card’ is set to commence soon.
