Delhi Customs seizes hydroponic weed worth Rs 5.38 Crore at IGI Airport, two arrested

New Delhi: Delhi Customs has seized hydroponic weed valued at approximately Rs 5.38 crore at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and arrested two individuals in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Hydroponic Weed Recovered at IGI Airport

According to Customs officials, the seizure was made during a targeted operation at IGI Airport after officers intercepted suspicious passengers arriving from an international destination.

Upon examination of their baggage, Customs officials recovered a substantial quantity of hydroponic weed, a high-grade form of cannabis cultivated using nutrient-rich water solutions instead of soil.

The total quantity of the contraband was assessed at a market value of around Rs 5.38 crore.

Two Accused Arrested

Following the recovery, Customs authorities arrested two individuals under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials said the accused were allegedly involved in the illegal import and transportation of narcotic substances into the country.

Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the source of the consignment, its intended recipients, and whether the accused are linked to a larger drug trafficking network.

Investigation Continues

Customs officials stated that further inquiries are being conducted to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.

Authorities are also examining international links and possible connections with organised drug syndicates.

The seized narcotics have been taken into custody, and the arrested individuals are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
