Smart manufacturing and bio-innovation labs open at IIT Delhi, will provide a big platform to research, startups, MSMEs Hi-tech facilities have been created, innovation in healthcare, genomics, diagnostics and advanced manufacturing sectors will get a new momentum. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has taken an important initiative to give a new direction to advanced manufacturing and biotechnology-based research in the country. The institute inaugurated the upgraded Foundation for Smart Manufacturing (FSM) Lab and Advanced Bio-Innovation Lab in collaboration with ICICI Foundation.
The purpose of these two facilities is to provide modern technological resources to students, researchers, startups, innovators and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). So that they can take their ideas from the lab to the market. Senior officials from IIT Delhi, ICICI Bank and ICICI Foundation were present at the inauguration ceremony.
The new facilities include state-of-the-art equipment for research, prototyping, testing, validation and skill development. The institute believes that through these resources, the development of new technologies in areas such as healthcare, diagnostics, precision medicine, genomics, and smart manufacturing will accelerate and solutions can be developed to suit the changing needs of industries.

FSM Lab to Convert Scientific Discoveries into Commercial Products Bio-Innovation Facility
Developed under the Industry 4.0 vision of IIT Delhi, the FSM lab is equipped with modern manufacturing systems, automation technology and rapid prototyping facilities. Startups and MSMEs will be able to design, develop, test and refine their products and take them to market faster. Along with this, skilling and certification programs will also be conducted according to the demand of the industry, which will create employable human resources.
The advanced Bio-Innovation Lab developed under the Bio-NEST Incubator will provide an opportunity to researchers and entrepreneurs working in the field of health, medical technology, genomics and diagnostics to convert scientific discoveries into practical solutions. It offers facilities such as molecular characterization, process optimization, product validation and technology development.
Significant achievement in growth, strengthening industry academia collaboration
Prof. Jayant Jain, Dean, Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, said, “These facilities are a significant milestone towards innovation-led growth and strengthening industry-academia collaboration. This will provide world-class resources to startups, students and MSMEs, which will help in converting new ideas into effective solutions.
Prof. Sunil Jha, Director and Associate Dean (R&D), FSM, said, “This lab will be a powerful platform to take advanced manufacturing technologies to industries. This will increase the pace of innovation, improve the quality of products and strengthen the global competitiveness of Indian industries.
