IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Delhi, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Other States; Strong Winds Forecast

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of India on September 6. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to witness unsettled weather conditions.

In several areas, wind speeds may reach 60-65 kmph, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of central, northern and western India. The weather department has also warned of possible landslides in hilly regions and rising river levels in flood-prone areas.

Low-pressure area influences weather across several regions

A low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh is influencing weather conditions across a large part of the country.

Under its influence, eastern Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely over parts of the western Himalayan region.

Strong winds, thunderstorms and intense rainfall may affect normal life in vulnerable areas. Heavy showers could also impact standing crops, while hailstorms are possible in some locations.

Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar under rain and wind alert

Delhi is likely to witness thunderstorms, rainfall and strong winds, particularly towards the evening. Wind speeds may reach 30-40 kmph in some areas.

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Lucknow, are also expected to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds. Waterlogging and disruption to traffic may occur in areas with poor drainage.

Bihar may also witness heavy rainfall and stormy winds. Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Buxar, Rohtas, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Darbhanga, Supaul and Saharsa are among the districts likely to be affected. In some areas, wind speeds could reach up to 70 kmph, increasing the risk of damage to trees, temporary structures and crops.

Heavy rain warning for Rajasthan, MP and hilly states

Heavy rainfall has been forecast in several parts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Bundi and Udaipur. Madhya Pradesh is also likely to remain under the influence of the weather system, with rain and thunderstorms forecast in Indore, Sagar, Vidisha, Katni, Damoh, Khargone and Khandwa.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may experience heavy rainfall, increasing the possibility of landslides and disruption on vulnerable mountain roads.

Haryana, Punjab, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha are also likely to witness rainfall and strong winds in several areas.

Heavy rain over catchment areas may lead to a rise in river water levels, raising concerns for low-lying and flood-prone regions. Residents have been advised to remain alert, avoid open areas and stay away from trees and weak structures during thunderstorms and strong winds.

People in affected areas should follow local weather warnings and take necessary precautions as rainfall and wind conditions may affect transport, agriculture and daily life.
