IMD predicts more rainfall for Delhi-NCR, SpiceJet issues advisory

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are anticipated to experience additional rainfall on Thursday, following the issuance of orange and yellow alerts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for certain areas.

The persistent rainfall over the last few days has resulted in the Yamuna River surpassing the 207-meter mark for the fifth instance since 1963. This overflow has affected Nigambodh Ghat, Delhi’s oldest and most frequented cremation ground, prompting a suspension of its operations on Wednesday.

According to the IMD’s nowcast warnings, parts of Delhi, as well as Noida and Ghaziabad, are under a yellow alert indicating light rain and thunderstorms. Furthermore, an orange alert has been issued for Gurugram, signaling the possibility of moderate rain.

The weather forecast for the capital predicts thunderstorms accompanied by rain, with the minimum temperature expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius and the maximum approximately 33 degrees Celsius. Isolated heavy rainfall has also been forecasted for Haryana and Chandigarh on September 4.

At present, the Delhi airport has not released any information regarding flight operations; however, SpiceJet has issued an advisory indicating, “Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi (DEL), all departures, arrivals, and their consequential flights may be impacted. Passengers are encouraged to verify their flight status regularly.”
