Heavy rain alert in states as western disturbance active

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for several states, including Jharkhand, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning activity. The alert comes as an active western disturbance continues to influence weather patterns across north, central, and eastern India.

According to the IMD, widespread rainfall is expected in parts of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next few days. The sudden change in weather is likely to bring relief from rising temperatures but may also cause disruptions in daily life.

Third western disturbance active in April

Meteorologists have identified this as part of a series of western disturbances affecting the region in early April. These weather systems originate outside India and bring moisture-laden winds, leading to rain, thunderstorms, and sometimes hailstorms.

The IMD has indicated that another fresh western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India around April 7–8, which could further intensify rainfall and storm activity across several states.

Hailstorm likely in Rajasthan and MP

One of the key concerns highlighted in the forecast is the possibility of hailstorms in parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. These areas have already witnessed unstable weather conditions, including gusty winds and localized storms.

Weather officials have warned that hailstorms may occur alongside thunderstorms, potentially causing damage to crops, vehicles, and infrastructure. Similar weather patterns have recently affected Rajasthan, where rain and hailstorms caused significant agricultural losses.

Jharkhand among states on alert

Jharkhand is expected to witness rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning between April 5 and April 7. The IMD has issued advisories for residents to remain cautious, especially during lightning activity and strong winds.

Other eastern states, including Bihar and West Bengal, are also likely to experience similar weather conditions, with intermittent rainfall and gusty winds.

Temperature likely to drop

The ongoing weather activity is expected to bring down temperatures across several regions. Experts say that cloud cover and rainfall will lead to a temporary dip in daytime temperatures, offering relief from early summer heat.

The IMD has also noted that temperatures across many parts of India are likely to remain near or below normal levels over the coming days due to continuous weather disturbances.

Authorities have issued advisories for farmers, especially in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where standing crops may be vulnerable to hailstorms and strong winds. Residents have been urged to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and secure loose objects that could be affected by gusty winds.
