Impact of LPG Crisis: Food Cooked on Wood Stoves in Himachal Assembly

Shimla:  The impact of the commercial LPG shortage in Himachal Pradesh’s capital, Shimla, has now reached the Assembly. Due to the disruption in the supply of gas cylinders, food prepared during the budget session is now being cooked using traditional wood stoves.

Food Prepared Daily
During the session, food is prepared daily for hundreds of people, including MLAs. However, due to the gas shortage, cooks are forced to resort to wood. This is not only increasing costs but also requiring more labor.

Supply from Tourism Corporation Hotels
This situation is being witnessed in the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation hotels—especially Holiday Home and Peterhof—where food is prepared for the Assembly. According to cooks, the unavailability of gas has made it challenging to prepare large quantities of food on time.

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s budget session is currently underway, with the second phase beginning Wednesday and continuing until April 2. If gas supplies don’t return to normal soon, cooking will continue on wood stoves.
