Imran Khan Supporters To March Towards Islamabad After PTI-Government Talks Fail

Islamabad: Supporters of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will proceed with a planned long march towards Islamabad after overnight talks between the government and the opposition ended without an agreement.

The second round of talks began on Saturday evening and continued into the early hours of Sunday, but the two sides failed to resolve key differences, particularly over access to Imran Khan and his personal doctors.

PTI to go ahead with Islamabad march

PTI leaders confirmed that the long march would proceed as planned. The protest had originally been scheduled for September 27 but was postponed to October 4 amid government measures to prevent the demonstration.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced that the first phase of the march would begin from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat at 1 p.m. on Sunday, with supporters from several districts joining the convoy.

The planned route includes stops near Karak and Kohat before the convoy moves towards Peshawar and onward towards Islamabad.

Talks fail over Imran Khan access, security issues

The opposition has demanded an immediate meeting with Imran Khan, including access to his personal physician, along with other demands related to his family members and party workers.

The government, meanwhile, insisted that PTI should first cancel the march, while the question of access to Khan would be handled according to law and jail rules. Differences also remained over the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s cooperation with the federal government in tackling terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s political adviser Rana Sanaullah warned that the protesters would not be allowed to enter Islamabad and said any attempt to create disorder would be dealt with under the law.
