India Beat Australia by 9 Wickets in 3rd ODI at Sydney

Sydney, Oct 25: Rohit Sharma’s century and Virat Kohli’s record-breaking innings helped India beat Australia by nine wickets in the third ODI. Despite the defeat, Australia won the three-match series 2-1.

Mitchell Marsh won the toss for the third consecutive time and elected to bat first. Australia were all out for 236 in 46.4 overs. Harshit Rana took four wickets.

In reply, India achieved the target in 38.3 overs for the loss of one wicket. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 121 and Virat Kohli on 74. Rohit scored his 33rd ODI century and was named Player of the Match.

Virat Kohli became the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history as soon as he scored his 54th run of the innings. He broke Kumar Sangakkara’s (14,234) record. Kohli (14,255 runs) is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs). 

Rohit and Kohli made the run chase easy.

The pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made India’s run chase easy. The Indian openers put on a 69-run partnership off 62 balls. This partnership was broken by Josh Hazlewood. Gill was dismissed for 24 runs. After captain Gill’s dismissal, the Rohit-Kohli pair secured India’s victory.

Australia, batting after winning

the toss, lost one wicket while scoring 67 runs in Powerplay-1. While the ball was swinging in the initial overs of the match. In such a situation, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head batted cautiously and added 67 runs for the first wicket. Head was caught by Prasidh Krishna off Mohammed Siraj. This is where the opening partnership was broken.

After the powerplay, Axar Patel dismissed captain Mitchell Marsh (41). Matt Renshaw made 56 and Matthew Short 30. Travis Head made 29 and Alex Carey 24.

Kohli’s brilliant catch, Iyer injured

Virat Kohli took a brilliant catch of Matthew Short in the 23rd over. Short swept Washington Sundar’s delivery. The ball went to Virat Kohli standing at forward square. Kohli didn’t have much reaction time, yet he took the catch. On the fourth ball of the 34th over, Shreyas Iyer was injured while attempting to catch wicketkeeper Alex Carey. He also had to leave the field. Carey was dismissed for 24 runs.
