New Delhi: Stressing that the relationship between India and Bhutan is one of values, emotions, peace and progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the progress and prosperity of the two nations are connected to each other.
In his address at the Changlimethang Ground in Thimphu, PM Modi announced that India, in the near future, will build an immigration checkpoint near Gelephu to facilitate visitors and investors.

India’s Developmental Support to Bhutan

PM Modi said the Indian government has announced a contribution of Rs 10,000 crore for Bhutan’s Five-Year Plan, benefitting sectors ranging from roads and agriculture to healthcare and finance.

He also highlighted the expansion of UPI payment facilities in Bhutan and announced plans to enable Bhutanese citizens to access UPI services in India as well.

Cultural and Spiritual Bonds Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Emphasising the spiritual connection between the two nations, the Prime Minister said India and Bhutan are jointly building a satellite — a significant achievement reflecting the strength of their cooperation.

He noted India’s support in providing land for a Bhutanese temple and guest house in Varanasi, further deepening cultural ties.

Recounting his first foreign trip as Prime Minister to Bhutan in 2014, PM Modi said, “India and Bhutan are connected not just by borders, but also by culture. Our relationship is one of values, emotions, peace, and progress.”

He praised Bhutan’s Fourth King and the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival, calling them reflections of the enduring friendship between the two countries.

Empowering the Youth Through Partnership

The Prime Minister also lauded Bhutan’s efforts under King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to empower the youth through innovation, national service, and technology.

He said the young people of both nations stand to benefit the most from the growing partnership between India and Bhutan.
