Arunachal Pradesh: Face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops are continuing at several locations along the border in Arunachal Pradesh, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor said during a recent address to personnel of the force.
Speaking at an investiture ceremony ahead of the ITBP’s 65th Raising Day on October 22, Kapoor praised the force’s newly formed Shaurya commando teams for their performance during confrontations with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

“Recently, a situation developed in Arunachal Pradesh where face-offs took place at several locations, and some of these situations are still ongoing. Our Shaurya Commando teams deployed there have performed exceptionally well,” the ITBP chief said.
His remarks indicate that tensions remain at multiple points along the Arunachal Pradesh frontier. The two countries have different perceptions of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto boundary separating their territories. These differences have led to face-offs and other disputes in border areas.
ITBP Plans More Commando Teams
Kapoor also outlined plans to expand the ITBP’s commando strength. He said the force has already raised one commando team in every battalion, while two additional teams are being formed.
The aim is to establish a full commando company in every ITBP battalion. The force is also working on setting up a separate battalion dedicated exclusively to commando operations.
“Our Operations Wing is working on this, and I hope the framework will be finalised within the next day or two. These elite commando units will become a distinctive identity for the ITBP,” Kapoor said.
The Shaurya teams were specifically praised for their role during the recent face-offs in Arunachal Pradesh, where some confrontations are still continuing.
India-China Border Talks Remain Important
India and China have continued to use military-level talks to address disputes along the LAC. The armies held a Corps Commander-level meeting in September, with sources indicating that the Indian side had taken a firm position on the conduct of Chinese troops in the area where the latest issues emerged.
Until now, Corps Commander-level discussions have largely been held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in the Ladakh sector.
These talks gained greater importance after the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020, in which soldiers from both sides were killed. Since then, military and diplomatic channels have remained central to efforts to manage tensions and prevent further escalation along the border.
The latest engagement comes after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s visit to China in August. Following his talks with Chinese officials, India and China announced several measures aimed at maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC.
The continuing face-offs in Arunachal Pradesh highlight the border issues that both countries still need to address, even as diplomatic and military efforts continue.
