New Delhi: India has strongly condemned the deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The attack killed 12 people and injured over 300. India has expressed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia in defending its sovereignty.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We strongly condemn the repeated attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport in the past few days, including the cowardly attack on October 10, which resulted in loss of life, injuries, and damage to property. We express our condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Attacks on civilian targets unacceptable: India
India clarified that targeting civilian areas and vital installations cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement, “The repeated attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are completely unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.”
India reiterated its diplomatic stance, stating that it stands with the people and government of Saudi Arabia in defending its sovereignty. India also expressed hope that peace and normalcy will be restored in the region as soon as possible.
12 killed, 309 injured in attack
According to data released by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, the 12 people killed in the attack on Saturday afternoon included four Saudi citizens and eight foreign residents.
The foreign nationals included two Bangladeshis, while one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan was killed.
309 people injured in the attack are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
Following the incident, aviation authorities temporarily suspended airport operations to assess security and damage.
Tensions escalate between Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia in Yemen
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi group said in an official statement that it is ready to take reciprocal steps with Saudi Arabia to protect key airports, ports, and humanitarian aid installations amid the escalating military conflict.
Al-Masirah TV, run by the Houthi group, claimed that the Saudi military had launched fresh air and missile strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
According to reports, the attacks targeted the capital Sanaa’s international airport, areas around the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and several northern provinces in Yemen.
