India’s Digital Public Infrastructure Model Gains Global Recognition, Reaches 24 Countries

New Delhi: India has emerged as a global leader in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), with the country signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 24 nations to expand cooperation on India Stack and digital governance systems. The agreements cover key areas such as digital identity, digital payments, data exchange and public service delivery, according to an official fact sheet released on Saturday.

The development comes as the Digital India Programme prepares to complete 11 years on July 1, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.

India Stack Expands Global Footprint

The official fact sheet said India Stack has evolved into one of the world’s largest Digital Public Infrastructure ecosystems, enabling the delivery of citizen-centric digital services at scale.

Through partnerships with 24 countries, India is sharing its digital governance model, helping other nations adopt technology-driven solutions for identity verification, financial inclusion, digital payments and public service delivery.

India also launched India Stack Global and the Global DPI Repository during its G20 Presidency in 2023 to make its digital public infrastructure solutions accessible to countries across the world.

UPI and Digital Platforms Gain International Recognition

India continues to lead the world in real-time digital payments, with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) accounting for nearly 49 per cent of global real-time transaction volume.

UPI services are currently operational in more than eight countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, France, Mauritius and Sri Lanka, expanding India’s global fintech presence.

Other flagship digital platforms, including Aadhaar, DigiLocker, CoWIN, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), DIKSHA, UMANG and eSanjeevani, are increasingly being recognised as successful models for digital governance and public service delivery.

Digital India Drives Inclusive Growth

Over the past 11 years, Digital India has significantly expanded access to healthcare, education, agriculture, skill development and welfare services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Built around nine foundational pillars, the programme has focused on improving digital connectivity, promoting e-governance, encouraging innovation and making public services more accessible through technology.

According to the fact sheet, the initiative has played a key role in bridging the digital divide while empowering citizens through secure and efficient digital platforms.

Digital Economy’s Growing Contribution

India’s digital economy currently contributes an estimated 12 to 14 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with projections suggesting this share could rise to nearly 20 per cent over the next decade.

The programme has also supported the growth of startups, accelerated technology adoption across industries and strengthened India’s capabilities in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity.

Towards Viksit Bharat 2047

The government said Digital India will continue to play a central role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with a focus on technological self-reliance, inclusive development and citizen empowerment.

Officials said India’s Digital Public Infrastructure model is increasingly being viewed globally as an example of scalable, secure and inclusive digital governance, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in digital innovation.
