India’s Embassy in Nepal Celebrates 80th Independence Day With Patriotic Fervour

Kathmandu: The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu on Saturday, with members of the Indian community and friends of India in Nepal participating in the celebrations.

The event began with the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by the hoisting of the national flag by Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and the singing of the National Anthem.

The celebrations also featured the broadcast of President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day.

Embassy Honours Families of Deceased Armed Forces Personnel

On the occasion, Ambassador Naveen Srivastava honoured the widows and next of kin of 11 deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces.

He also handed over Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques totalling NPR 8.2 crore to the beneficiaries.

The Ambassador felicitated winners of various competitions organised by the Embassy to mark India’s 80th Independence Day. These included a painting competition on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat’, the Viksit Bharat Run and an inter-school quiz competition.

Winners of a special edition of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz were also felicitated.

Book Grant Announced for 22 Nepal Institutions

The Embassy announced a book grant for 22 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces of Nepal. The initiative is aimed at improving access to educational resources.

Members of the Indian community, friends of India, Embassy officials and their families participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.

The programme also featured cultural performances and patriotic songs by teachers and students of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center of the Embassy.

Nepal Leaders Extend Independence Day Greetings

Meanwhile, Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel, the Prime Minister’s Office and Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal extended greetings to India on its 80th Independence Day.

President Paudel, in a post on X, congratulated President Droupadi Murmu, the Indian government and the people of India, and said the longstanding friendship between the two countries, rooted in shared history, culture and close people-to-people ties, should continue to deepen.

The Prime Minister’s Office also extended greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people and government of India, highlighting the deep historical ties and close people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal conveyed his greetings to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the Indian government and people, and highlighted the deep historical and civilisational ties and multifaceted partnership between Nepal and India.

The messages underscored the close historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two neighbouring countries and their broad-based cooperation.
