India extends ban on Pakistani aircraft from entering its airspace till October 24

The airspace dispute between India and Pakistan continues to escalate. India on Monday extended the ban on Pakistani airlines and aircraft from entering its airspace for one month. This ban will now remain in effect until 5:29 am on October 24th. This decision was taken by the Indian aviation authority by issuing a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).

Airspace Ban Continues for the Sixth Consecutive Month
Previously, Pakistan had announced the closure of its airspace for Indian aircraft and airlines two days ago. This new NOTAM from Pakistan is also effective until the date and time of October 24th. Thus, the airspace ban between the two countries has now entered its sixth consecutive month.

Tensions Escalate After the Pahalgam Terror Attack
Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad deepened following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April. Following this, Pakistan took a sudden step on April 24th, banning Indian aircraft and airlines from using its airspace. Initially, this ban was only for one month. India retaliated on April 30th by closing its airspace to Pakistani aircraft and airlines, including military flights. Since then, both countries have been extending this closure by issuing new NOTAMs every month.

Restrictions on each other’s flights only
It should be noted that India and Pakistan have imposed these restrictions only on each other’s aircraft and airlines. Their airspace remains open to airlines from other countries and international flights. This means that foreign aircraft can use the airspace of both countries, but Indian and Pakistani aircraft are not permitted to transit through each other’s airspace.
