India Launches Operation Sagar Bandhu to Aid Sri Lanka After Cyclone Ditwah

New Delhi: In the wake of widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka, India has launched Operation Sagar Bandhu to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the island nation.

As part of the operation, the Indian Air Force swiftly deployed one C-130 and one IL-76 aircraft from Hindan Air Base on the night of November 28/29, airlifting 21 tonnes of relief material along with over 80 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and eight tonnes of specialised equipment to Colombo.

Essential Supplies Delivered to Affected Areas

The relief consignment includes essential rations and critical supplies aimed at supporting communities affected by the cyclone. Indian authorities said the assistance is intended to help Sri Lanka respond effectively to the immediate humanitarian crisis and strengthen ongoing relief operations.

India Reaffirms ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy

Reaffirming its “Neighbourhood First” approach, India said it stands firmly with Sri Lanka during this difficult time.

“India stands firmly with Sri Lanka in this hour of need,” the Ministry of External Affairs said, underlining New Delhi’s commitment to regional solidarity and timely humanitarian outreach.
