First Private Rocket

We are proud of the progress our country has made in space research, which is second to none. India became the first country to reach the Moon’s South Pole. India is the first country in the third world to launch a communications satellite into space.

While private sector participation in the space sector is prevalent in the US, private participation has also increased in Indian space research. The latest news is that the country’s first private rocket, Vikram-1, will be launched between July 12th and August 4th. It has the capability to deliver small satellites into a low orbit of 450 kilometers. This seven-story-tall rocket is constructed with a carbon composite material. Most importantly, it was built by Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based private space company.

On Thursday, the company announced that the first launch of its Vikram-1 rocket could take place any time between July 12th and August 4th. This rocket will launch satellites into space. Previously, our ISRO had been doing this on a government basis. Demand grew, and smaller third-world countries that couldn’t afford research and launch costs turned to India. India also saw this as a profitable proposition, as it falls under the category of service exports.

As space services exports increase, our economy will move towards an export-driven one. Last year, the government invited private companies into this sector. Now, a private company in Hyderabad has developed India’s first fully developed orbital rocket. Its launch date will be determined based on final preparations, testing, weather, safety clearances, and launch range availability. This means that the scope of private and public participation has expanded. ISRO is the base for this partnership.

This launch will study every stage of the rocket, from takeoff to space launch and ascent. The launch system will have many components. Understanding the separation process of the various stages, guidance, navigation, control systems, and overall rocket performance reduces the rate of flight failures.

We plan to develop even better launch vehicles in the future, so this rocket test is of great importance. This private company successfully launched Vikram-S on November 18, 2022, India’s first private rocket to reach space from Earth. Thus, we can say that the rocket era has begun in India’s private sector as well.
