Harare: The Indian cricket team produced a dominant performance in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series against Zimbabwe, securing a massive 90-run victory to clinch the series. The consecutive wins also helped the Men in Blue reclaim the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I team rankings.

India had slipped from the top spot after England took over the rankings following their 4-0 T20I series win. However, back-to-back victories against Zimbabwe helped India return to the summit of the T20I rankings.

India Post 219 Runs Before Bowling Zimbabwe Out

Batting first after winning the toss, India delivered a strong batting performance and posted a huge total of 219 runs on the scoreboard.

The Indian batters showcased aggressive stroke play throughout the innings, putting Zimbabwe under pressure from the beginning. The target proved too difficult for the hosts as India’s bowlers produced an impressive display in the second innings.

Zimbabwe were restricted to just 129 runs, handing India a convincing 90-run victory and an unassailable lead in the series.

Shreyas Iyer Praises Team’s All-Round Performance

After the match, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer praised the collective effort of the team and highlighted the contributions from both batters and bowlers.

“I feel exultant, especially with the way we won today. It was a comprehensive victory and a brilliant contribution from each and every player,” Iyer said after the game.

He specifically praised the performances of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, saying their batting display was outstanding.

“At the start, I felt anything between 180 and 200 would have been a par score, but we ended up getting 220, which was the icing on the cake,” Iyer added.

The skipper also lauded the bowling unit for executing their plans perfectly and restricting Zimbabwe to a low total.

With the series secured and the top ICC T20I ranking regained, India have strengthened their position as one of the most dominant teams in the shortest format of the game.
