India and Slovakia upgrade relations to ‘Comprehensive Partnership’ during PM Modi’s historic visit

Bratislava: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced that India and Slovakia have upgraded their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, while praising Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for his role in strengthening ties between the two countries.

Addressing a joint press meet with PM Fico following their meeting in Bratislava, PM Modi said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Fico for the warm welcome. He is an experienced leader and also a true friend of India…”

Bilateral Relations Elevated to New Level

“This visit marks the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia. On this historic occasion, we have decided to elevate our relationship to the level of a Comprehensive Partnership…”

PM Modi stated that detailed discussions were held on giving a new direction to cooperation between both nations, including trade, automobiles, railways, advanced manufacturing, and green technologies.

India–EU Free Trade Agreement Support

He also thanked Slovakia for its support in finalising the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU), highlighting its importance for industries, startups, and traders.

Digital Technology and AI Cooperation

PM Modi noted that a Memorandum of Understanding on digital technology will open new avenues in digital public infrastructure, and announced the establishment of an India Chair on AI at a Slovak university.

He also highlighted strong potential for cooperation in the space sector, recalling that Slovakia’s first satellite was launched by India in 2017.
