India and Spain must pool resources and capabilities to fight terrorism: President Murmu

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said that India and Spain must pool their resources and capabilities to combat terrorism in all its forms, noting that both countries share a common position on countering the global menace that threatens peace and stability. She made the remarks during a meeting with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President also underlined the need for both nations to work together on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and G20 to advance shared goals of global peace, prosperity and stability.

70 Years of Ties to Be Marked With Dual Year Celebrations

President Murmu noted that India and Spain will commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations by celebrating the ‘India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence’. According to a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the initiative will highlight strong cultural bonds, people-to-people ties, tourism potential and growing technological collaboration between the two nations. She expressed satisfaction at the steady expansion of bilateral relations across multiple sectors.

Growing Economic, Strategic Cooperation Highlighted

Highlighting economic ties, the President said trade and investment between India and Spain have been steadily increasing. She pointed out that Spain’s strengths in engineering, railways, renewable energy, urban services and defence aerospace align well with India’s development priorities, and expressed confidence that the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement would further strengthen economic engagement. Earlier, Albares held wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, with both sides agreeing to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, technology, education, tourism, culture and AI, while reaffirming strong political dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
