India-US Trade Deal: Congress leaders stage protest in Jalandhar

Congress has launched a campaign against the central government, calling the deal “anti-farmer.” In Jalandhar, leaders led by Congress MLA Pargat Singh protested outside the District Magistrate’s office.

Congress MLA Pargat Singh, former MLA Rajinder Beri, and councilor Sherry Chadha, along with a large number of workers, reached the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office. The leaders submitted a memorandum of demands to the DC in protest.

Speaking to the media during the protest, MLA Pargat Singh leveled serious allegations against the central government. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surrendered to the agreement. Pargat Singh claims that the terms of this US deal will completely destroy the Indian agriculture sector and farmers.

Questions raised regarding tariff rates

Citing data, Pargat Singh said that the US deal had set a tariff rate of 18 percent. However, after the intervention of the US Supreme Court, it was reduced to 10 percent. He alleged that the central government, in the name of recovery, has again tried to plunge the country into an economic crisis by increasing the tariff by 5 percent.

The Issue of AI and Chinese Robots

Along with the trade agreement, Congress also raised questions about the AI ​​Summit. Pargat Singh said that robots made in China are being brought here and claimed to have been developed in Indian universities. He questioned the government’s transparency, saying that we learn about our own deals through the US.

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Kisan Chaupal’ in Bhopal

Amidst this controversy, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is holding a major event in Bhopal on February 24. Thousands of farmers from across Madhya Pradesh are expected to gather at this event, called “Kisan Chaupal.” The party says that from this platform, the ‘anti-people’ policies of the Centre and the ill effects of the trade deal will be openly discussed.
