India Once Again Refuses To Take Women’s Asia Cup Trophy From ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team produced a brilliant performance against Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final, winning the match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13 to lift the title.

However, the post-match trophy presentation also drew attention after the Indian team did not come out of the dressing room to receive their winner’s medals and did not take the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

A similar situation had occurred during the men’s Asia Cup final in 2025, when India defeated Pakistan to win the title.

What Happened During The 2025 Asia Cup Final?

As per protocol, ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is supposed to present the trophy to the winning team. However, this did not happen after India defeated Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai.

The Indian men’s team did not receive the trophy and went on to celebrate the victory with an imaginary title.

The post-match presentation ceremony was also delayed by more than an hour. After the proceedings, Naqvi left the venue with the Asia Cup trophy, leading to a controversy that has now resurfaced following the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final.

What Did Harmanpreet Kaur Say After India’s Win?

After India comfortably defeated Sri Lanka in the final, captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her teammates and highlighted the standards the team had set for itself during the tournament.

“We feel this way because we know how much potential we have, and we have a great team. I think we played to our standards because that’s what we discussed when we came here: we have certain standards, and we have to keep matching them every day. And we are very happy with the way we all performed,” Harmanpreet Kaur said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

India’s victory gave the Women in Blue their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
