New Delhi: Indian-American households reported a median annual income of about $151,200, far higher than the US median of around $83,700, making them the top earners among all major ethnic groups in the country, according to a report citing Pew Research Center.
Higher Income Than Other Groups
The report, published by The Australia Today, stated that Indian-American households earn nearly $67,000 more annually than the average US household, which is about 80 per cent higher. With a population of around 4.8 million, they account for just 1.4 per cent of the US population but have a strong economic presence due to their involvement in professional and technical fields.
Even among Asian communities, Indian Americans lead in earnings. Taiwanese-American households rank second with a median income of about $133,300, while the overall Asian-American median stands at around $105,600.
Strong Economic Contribution
The report also highlighted that Indian Americans contribute significantly to federal revenue, paying nearly 6 per cent of total taxes, reflecting their concentration in high-income brackets.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk recently acknowledged the contributions of people of Indian origin in sectors like engineering, science, and entrepreneurship in the United States, adding that global talent plays a key role in addressing skill gaps.
