Home-to-Home Medicine Delivery Launched for Army Veterans in Sikkim

Sikkim: Taking a significant step towards strengthening the welfare of veterans, the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has launched a pilot project for home delivery of essential medicines to eligible veterans in Sikkim, officials said on Saturday.

Initiative in Collaboration with ECHS, Department of Posts, and CSC

Under this initiative, medicines are being delivered directly to the beneficiaries’ homes through the ECHS polyclinic in Gangtok. The Indian Postal Department and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited are collaborating. This arrangement will ensure safe, timely, and hassle-free delivery, especially for veterans living in remote and inaccessible areas of the state.

Special Focus on Veterans Living in Hard-to-Reach Areas

In the initial phase, the Gangtok ECHS Polyclinic has identified approximately 58 remote beneficiaries living in South Sikkim, North Sikkim, and West Sikkim. These veterans faced significant difficulties in accessing medications due to long distances, hilly terrain, and limited mobility.

Major Relief for Senior and Disabled Veterans

Many beneficiaries are elderly or physically challenged, making frequent visits to the polyclinic extremely tedious and time-consuming. A senior military officer stated that this pilot project has been launched to alleviate this burden by ensuring regular availability of prescribed medications without travel.

Reliable Delivery Through Postal Network and Technology

This medication delivery system utilizes the extensive network of the Indian Post and digital coordination support, ensuring reliability and accountability throughout the process. This ensures tracking and timely delivery of medicines.

Plans to expand service in the next phase

Encouraged by the initial response, the ECHS polyclinic proposes to expand the home delivery service to all identified beneficiaries in the next phase. This expansion will improve access to healthcare services, ensure continuity of treatment, and reduce the physical and financial burden on senior citizens and disabled veterans.

Part of the nationwide Veterans Welfare Program

This initiative is part of the pan-India program of the Ex-Servicemen Health Scheme, a central organization operated under the Adjutant General’s Branch. It reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to improving the quality of life of veterans through technology and coordination with various agencies.
