New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Sunday that Indian Railways is working rapidly on the modernization of train coaches to enhance passenger comfort and safety.
New Railway Coaches and Toilets being Developed
In a post shared on the social media platform ‘X’, the Minister informed that, under this initiative, new coach designs and improved toilet models have been developed.
He added that a sample coach incorporating these new features has also been prepared, wherein an older coach has been upgraded and equipped with modern amenities.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “To improve passenger safety and comfort, the Railways has developed coaches featuring new designs and enhanced toilet facilities. A sample coach has been created by upgrading an existing coach.”
He also shared a video showcasing the interiors of the new coach and its improved sanitation facilities—an effort aimed at making train travel even more comfortable.
This move is part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts aimed at enhancing the travel experience across its entire network.
New Delhi Railway Station Undergoing Significant Development
Meanwhile, the redevelopment work at the New Delhi Railway Station is also progressing at a rapid pace. This project places a special emphasis on safety and passenger convenience.
Under the plan, approximately 1,500 AI-based cameras will be installed within the station premises to bolster surveillance and security arrangements.
Railway employees and vendors will be issued ID cards and uniforms to ensure proper identification, while new signboards will be installed to facilitate passengers.
Furthermore, the station will be integrated with taxi services to ensure better last-mile connectivity for passengers.
The Railway Minister also highlighted improvements in railway safety. In a written reply submitted in the Lok Sabha, he noted that there has been a significant decline in serious railway accidents.
According to the statistics, there were 135 serious accidents in 2014-15, a figure that has dropped to just 14 in 2025-26 (as of February 28).
Meanwhile, a total of 1,711 serious accidents were recorded between 2004–05 and 2013–14, which declined to 678 during the period from 2014–15 to 2023–24. Additionally, there has been a decrease in the number of fatalities and injuries resulting from these accidents.
