    Indian stock exchanges to remain open on Sunday for Union Budget 2026

    Mumbai: Indian stock exchanges BSE and NSE on Friday announced that markets will remain open for trading on February 1 (Sunday) on account of the presentation of the Union Budget 2026–27.

    Stock Markets to Remain Open on Budget Day

    Both exchanges confirmed that the pre-open market will function from 9:00 am to 9:08 am, while normal trading will take place from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm.

    “On account of the presentation of the Union Budget, members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting live trading session on February 01, 2026, as per the standard market timings (9:15 am–3:30 pm),” NSE said in a circular.

    Besides the equity segment, trading in the F&O and commodity derivatives segments will also remain open on Budget Day.

    BSE Guidelines on Trading Sessions

    In a separate circular, BSE clarified that certain sessions will not be conducted on the day. “Trading Members may note that trading in T+0 Settlement Session and Auction Session for settlement default will not be conducted on Sunday, February 01, 2026,” the exchange said.

    Budget to Be Presented at 11 AM

    The Union Budget will be presented at 11 am on February 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This will be the first time since 2000 that the Union Budget will be presented in Parliament on a Sunday.

    Earlier, Sitharaman had presented the Budget on a Saturday in 2025, while Budget 2015 under late Arun Jaitley was also presented on a Saturday on February 28, 2015.

    Parliamentary Schedule for Budget Session

    Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had earlier confirmed that Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2026–27 on February 1 at 11 am in the lower house.

    The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 28 and continue till April 2. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the first phase of the session will conclude on February 13. Parliament will reassemble for the second phase on March 9, which will run till April 2.

    Economic Survey and Special Sitting Details

    Rijiju also said that on the recommendation of the Central government, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026.

    Parliament will not sit on January 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony. Both Houses are scheduled to meet on January 30, when the Economic Survey is expected to be tabled.
