Indian vlogger detained for 15 hours in China over Arunachal Pradesh comment, describes experience as mentally disturbing

Delhi: Indian travel vlogger Anant Mittal, known as On Road Indian on social media, claims he was detained in China for approximately 15 hours. According to Mittal, Chinese authorities subjected him to lengthy questioning due to an online comment he made related to Arunachal Pradesh. He described the entire experience as extremely disturbing and emotionally draining.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 15, when Mittal arrived in China to meet a friend. After the usual immigration procedures at Guangzhou Airport, an officer stopped him before stamping his passport and called a senior officer. He was then taken to a detention area.

Mittal said he saw other foreign nationals there, which further increased his anxiety. After receiving no information for about two hours, he suspected the matter was serious. Later, two officers questioned him, checked his belongings, and confiscated his camera and some other gadgets.

In his YouTube video, “Indian Tourist Detained In China for 15 Hours,” Mittal clarified that he has no political agenda and only shares his travel experiences. He admitted that it was a mistake to comment on a sensitive political issue. During his detention, he was neither given food nor allowed to contact the Indian Embassy.

Mittal said he went without food for more than 29 hours. However, he also thanked the Chinese authorities for not deporting him and allowing him to return to India on his scheduled flight. He is now back in India and safe, and is planning his next trip to Russia.

It is worth noting that a month earlier, an Indian citizen from Arunachal Pradesh was also allegedly detained for 18 hours during transit at Shanghai Airport.
