Muscat: Five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III were safely rescued after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday.
The MEA confirmed that all five Indian nationals were rescued and shifted ashore safely.
Indian nationals rescued after tanker struck
“Rescue of five Indian nationals on board the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III. We remain committed to the safety, security and welfare of our seafarers abroad,” the MEA said in a post on X.
The Embassy of India in Oman said it had coordinated the rescue operation and confirmed that all five Indian nationals had been safely brought ashore.
“Earlier today, the Mission coordinated rescue of five Indian nationals on board the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III, struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely,” the Embassy said.
The Embassy also thanked the Omani authorities for their continued support and assistance.
MEA concerned over attacks on commercial shipping
The latest incident comes amid continuing security concerns involving commercial shipping in the region.
Last month, one Indian seafarer was killed and 19 others rescued after an attack on the commercial vessel MV Cape Dao off the east coast of Oman.
The MEA had condemned the attack on September 23, saying that 19 of the 20 Indian seafarers aboard the vessel had been rescued while one Indian national lost his life.
The ministry had expressed concern over continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region and called for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions.
India calls for safe navigation
The MEA said attacks targeting commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end and called for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways to be restored.
The ministry reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to help de-escalate tensions and facilitate the return of peace to the region.
