India’s ‘One Stop Centre for Women’ in Canada now operational Toronto

Toronto: The recently established “One Stop Centre for Women” (OSCW) at the Indian Consulate General in Toronto, Canada, is now fully operational. This center will provide assistance to Indian women in distress and ensure a safe, inclusive, and confidential environment for them.

Bridge between Indian and Canadian authorities

Speaking to Canadian media outlet Radio Canada International, Acting Indian Consul General in Toronto, Kapidhwaj Pratap Singh, explained that the center will serve as a bridge between Indian and Canadian authorities. Its aim is to provide Indian women with access to legal, financial, and emotional support.

He said, “Women in Canada need legal, financial, and other support in many cases, such as domestic violence, dowry, and exploitation. This center will help them access these services.”

Will overcome cultural and social barriers

Singh explained that although many organizations and institutions in Canada provide assistance, cultural and social barriers prevent many women from openly sharing their problems, leaving them without access to help.

He also clarified that this center is open not only to women of Indian origin permanently residing in Canada, but also to Indian women who are tourists, workers, or students.

Positive response received upon launch

According to the Acting Consul General, the initiative has received an overwhelming response. In just a few days since its launch, more than a dozen women have contacted the center with various issues. He also stated that the center will also provide financial assistance to women if needed.

Center’s Services and Scope

Established at the Indian Consulate General in Toronto on December 26, 2025, the center is designed to help Indian women in distress. It provides assistance in the following cases:

* Domestic violence and abuse
* Family disputes and abandonment
* Exploitation
* Legal issues

Integrated and law-abiding assistance

According to a statement issued by the Indian Consulate General, Toronto, the center will provide beneficiary-centered and coordinated assistance. Under this program, women who are victims will be provided with:

* Immediate counseling
* Psychosocial support
* Legal advice and support
* Connections to social and community resources available in Canada

The statement also clarified that all actions taken by the OSCW will be within the bounds of local Canadian laws, ensuring that every woman receives safe and legal assistance.
