Indore Society Bans Renting Flats to Bachelors After Techie’s Death

Indore: A day after the tragic death of female software engineer Sampada Pathak in Sagarshree Enclave, the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of the township has decided to prohibit renting flats to bachelors. The move comes amid complaints from residents about nuisance and disturbances caused by bachelors living on rent.

Gaurav Naik, president of the Sagarshree Enclave township, told IANS, “Several residents have complained about the nuisance created by bachelors living on rent here. Therefore, the committee has decided to impose a ban. Today, I have sent a message on the society’s WhatsApp group requesting all flat owners, especially those who have rented their flats to bachelors, to give their flats only to families.”

Concerns Over Commercial Activities and Amenities

Naik explained that the township’s construction was completed a few months ago, and residents have been moving in over the past one-and-a-half months. “Approximately three thousand people reside here. The penthouse is illegal. Most residents moved in just a month ago. We are currently in a dispute with the builder over various development issues. Amenities and facilities are still not provided, yet the builder ignores our concerns,” he said.

He added that while the builder has handed over flats and management, including security and parking, to the society’s committee, the township has not yet received a non-objection certificate (NOC) from the Indore Municipal Corporation.

    Tragic Incident Sparks Action

The incident that prompted the ban occurred on Wednesday following a dispute over the commercial use of a penthouse. At the time of the incident, four to five children were playing a few metres away from the gate but were unharmed.

The deceased, Sampada Pathak, was allegedly rammed by a car driven by Mohit Choudhary, son of Kuldeep Choudhary, a resident who owns two flats in the society. Police said the altercation began when some flat owners opposed the commercial use of penthouses, leading to Mohit allegedly driving the car into a group of residents. Sampada was rushed to Bombay Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries late Wednesday night. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the building.

    Arrests and Investigation

Following the incident, police arrested Kuldeep Choudhary and his son Mohit, and further investigation is underway. The RWA has now decided to ban renting flats to bachelors to prevent such incidents in the future and maintain peace in the society.
