Indore water contamination: 4 new diarrhoea cases push hospitalised count to 41 Indore

Indore: Four new cases of diarrhea reported in the Bhagirathpura area of ​​Indore in the last 24 hours have increased the number of hospitalized patients to 41 on Saturday. Of these, 12 patients are in the ICU. This information was provided by Chief Health and Medical Officer (CHMO), Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani.

Number of patients in the ICU increases

On Friday, 11 patients were admitted to the ICU. On Saturday, another patient’s condition deteriorated in the general ward and he was shifted to the ICU. So far, a total of 420 diarrhea patients have been admitted to hospitals, of which 379 have been discharged from more than 30 hospitals. This health crisis in Bhagirathpura a few days ago was caused by contaminated drinking water.

Health situation returning to normal: Kailash Vijayvargiya

Local BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the health situation in the Bhagirathpura area is gradually returning to normal. During a visit to the area on Saturday morning, he reported that approximately 30 percent of the work on laying a new pipeline to provide drinking water from the Narmada River has been completed, and water samples are being tested at several locations.

Narmada water supply to resume in two to three days

Vijayvargiya said that Narmada water supply will resume in some parts of Bhagirathpura within the next two to three days. He added that water samples from more than 100 borewells in the area have been found to be contaminated, and people have been advised to drink only water supplied by tankers.

Ban on new borewells and door-to-door health checkups

The minister said that he has instructed District Collector Shivram Verma to ban the permission for new borewells. Furthermore, the administration has decided to conduct health checkups for every resident of the Bhagirathpura area, and the process has already begun.

Target of health checkups for 50,000 to 60,000 people

According to Vijayvargiya, approximately 50,000 to 60,000 people live in Bhagirathpura. Several medical teams are conducting door-to-door health checkups. If anyone’s condition deteriorates, they will be provided with immediate medical treatment.

Senior officials inspected the scene

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi, ACS and Indore in-charge Anupam Rajan, District Collector Shivram Verma, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kshitij Singhal reached the spot and took stock of the situation. During the inspection, officials also interacted with local residents.

Water supply restored to one-third of the area in a day or two

ACS Neeraj Mandloi stated that water supply will be restored to approximately one-third of Bhagirathpura in the next day or two. He said that approximately 15-20 kilometers of pipelines are being laid, which will take time, but all development work has been approved and will be completed in the next month or two.
