“Inspires us in building strong, self-reliant India”: PM Modi pays homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his 395th birth anniversary. He expressed his respect, stating, “I pay homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti. His bravery and visionary leadership laid the groundwork for Swarajya, motivating generations to uphold the principles of courage and justice. He inspires us to build a strong, self-reliant, and prosperous India,” he shared on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also honored Shivaji Maharaj, emphasizing his legacy as a nation builder. He remarked, “The life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ji, who declared ‘Hindavi Swarajya’, was a blend of ethics, duty, and devotion. He defended the dignity of Sanatan values by fighting against fundamentalist invaders throughout his life and will forever be remembered as a nation builder,” he wrote on X.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in his tribute, highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s exceptional bravery and dedication to justice and public welfare. “I bow to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti. His unparalleled courage, commitment to justice, and dedication to the people’s welfare continue to inspire us. Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy of selfless service, integrity, and resilience will foster prosperity and peace for future generations,” he posted on X.

Born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri Fort in Pune, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is celebrated during the Jayanti festival. He was a 17th-century Indian warrior king who founded the Maratha Empire and is considered one of India’s greatest warriors. In 1674, he established the Maratha Empire in western India after intense battles with the Mughals in 1670. Beyond his military achievements, Shivaji Maharaj developed a well-structured administrative system and implemented a comprehensive civil code for the local populace. The day’s events focus on honoring his significant contributions to the Maratha Empire’s restoration and recognizing his vast legacy.
