International Drug Racket Busted in Amritsar; Over 5 Kilos of Heroin Seized, Several Smugglers Arrested

Amritsar police have made a breakthrough in two separate cases, taking action against an international drug trafficking network. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav shared information on X Handle, saying that the commissionerate police have made several key arrests as part of the ongoing drive against drug trafficking and have seized a large quantity of heroin.

According to the DGP, during the investigation of a major international drug smuggling network, the police arrested two more suspects. They recovered 5.041 kilograms of heroin from their possession. Earlier, six suspects, including three minors, had been arrested in the same case, during which a total of 30.045 kilograms of heroin was seized.

Based on detailed investigation of the case and clues gathered during questioning of the accused, the police arrested another suspect and seized 2.006 kilograms of heroin from him. The investigation also revealed that the accused were in contact with a smuggler based in Dubai, who was helping to arrange heroin consignments across the border.

Meanwhile, in another case, the police arrested another suspect during a separate operation. They recovered 3.035 kilograms of heroin from his possession. This action has provided important information about the operation of the smuggling network and other people associated with it.

An FIR has been registered at Cheherta police station under the NDPS Act in the case. The police are now investigating other members of the network, financial transactions, hawala connections, and the entire smuggling system. The Punjab police say that the campaign to completely dismantle drug smuggling networks will continue in order to make the state drug-free and safe.
