International Kabaddi player’s wife commits suicide in Rohtak, Read reason cited

Muskan Balhara (23), wife of international Kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara, committed suicide by hanging herself in an upstairs room of their house at 4:30 PM on Friday. Sheelu, known as ‘Haryana Ala Cheetah’, had been in Punjab for 15 days to play Kabaddi and returned late that night. Family discord is cited as the reason for the incident.

The police will proceed with further action on Saturday following the post-mortem and the recording of statements from her maternal family. The body has been placed in the PGI mortuary.

Investigating Officer and Bahuakbarpur Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jasbir stated that the police received information around 4:30 PM on Friday that Muskan Balhara had hanged herself using a chunn (scarf) tied to the ceiling fan. The police, accompanied by an FSL team, arrived at the scene and informed her maternal family.

Her maternal family arrived from Farmana village, and in their presence, the body was brought down and taken to the PGI mortuary. Preliminary investigations suggest a case of suicide.

Allegations of dowry harassment against international Kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara

A new twist has emerged in the suicide case of Muskan Balhara, wife of international Kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara. At 2:00 AM on Friday, Muskan’s father, Sukhbir—a resident of Farmana village—alleged that his daughter had been harassed for dowry.

He further claimed that Sheelu was involved in illicit relationships with other women, a fact Muskan had discovered. However, the accused party has dismissed these allegations as baseless.

The Bahuakbarpur police have registered an FIR for dowry harassment against Sheelu (alias Tinkū) Balhara, his father Surendra Balhara, his mother Nisha, and his brother Manish. In the complaint filed with the police, Sukhbir—a resident of Farmana village in the Meham Chaubisi area—alleged that his daughter Muskan was married to Tinkū (Sheelu) Balhara, a resident of Bahuakbarpur, in December 2023.
