Beirut: The Lebanese Health Ministry has reported that the death toll from Israeli attacks on civilians in southern Lebanon has risen to 22, including six women. Additionally, 124 others sustained injuries, among them 12 women and a paramedic from the Islamic Scout Association who was engaged in a humanitarian rescue effort.
According to a Lebanese military source speaking to Xinhua, Israeli forces, supported by a Merkava tank and a bulldozer, moved toward a crowd of civilians in the village of Mays al-Jabal and opened fire to intimidate and disperse the gathering.
The Israeli military also obstructed the main road leading to the United Nations Interim Force headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon, firing flares over Mays al-Jabal and the Arqoub Heights, and directing machine-gun fire toward Mount Sadaneh in the southeastern region.
Sunday marks the conclusion of a 60-day period during which Israel was supposed to withdraw from Lebanese territories. Under a ceasefire agreement reached in late November after prolonged conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanese army was to assume control of the area south of the Litani River, ensuring security by preventing the presence of weapons and militants.
Despite this ceasefire, Israel has continued its strikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in casualties in the border regions. Earlier reports indicated that 11 individuals had died from Israeli gunfire while attempting to return to their homes, with most victims being civilians from areas still occupied by Israel.
