At least 33 Palestinians were reported killed on Friday evening due to an Israeli airstrike targeting the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza, according to the media office of the Hamas-run Gaza government. Among the deceased, 21 were women, and the overall death toll could rise to 50, as many victims are believed to be trapped under rubble. Additionally, over 85 people were injured, with some in critical condition, as reported by Xinhua. The Israeli military has carried out strikes on several homes in the Jabalia camp; however, there has been no official comment from the Israeli army regarding the incident.
This action comes as part of Israel’s extensive military campaign against Hamas, which was launched in retaliation for a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, that left approximately 1,200 people dead and around 250 taken hostage in southern Israel. The Palestinian health authorities in Gaza reported that the death toll from ongoing Israeli strikes has now reached 42,500.
