Canberra: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed the lineup of his new ministry after securing a decisive victory in the May 3 federal election, according to reports from Xinhua. The 30-member Cabinet was announced on Monday, with most members remaining from the previous government.

Key figures, including Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles, Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, and Treasurer Jim Chalmers, will continue their roles. Michelle Rowland, who previously served as Minister for Communications, will now take on the role of Attorney-General. Tanya Plibersek, the former Environment Minister, has been moved to oversee social services, with Murray Watt replacing her in the environment portfolio.

Former Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus and Ed Husic, who was Minister for Science and Industry, were removed from the ministry amidst factional negotiations within the Labor Party. Katy Gallagher will continue as Finance Minister, Tony Burke as Home Affairs Minister, and Don Farrell as Trade and Tourism Minister. Additionally, Mark Butler, the Health Minister, will now also oversee the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

As of Monday, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that Labor was leading in 93 of the 150 lower house seats for the 48th Parliament, with one of the remaining five seats still to be decided. This election marks only the third time in Australian history that a party has secured more than 90 seats in the lower house, and it is the first time Labor has achieved such a feat. No party has ever won more than 94 seats.

The government is also predicted to hold up to 30 seats in the 76-member Senate. Albanese expressed pride that his caucus is the largest since the party’s inception in 1901, and he thanked Australians for their trust.

Members of the new ministry will be sworn in by Governor-General Sam Mostyn at Government House on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. Albanese stated he plans to recommend this ministry to the Governor-General, followed by a full cabinet meeting in Parliament House. He emphasized that his re-elected government is full of talented and energetic individuals ready to serve, and urged his party members to focus on working for all Australians.
