The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported her arrest on X, stating that the bodies of the slain youths, who were present at the protest site, were also taken into custody.

The BYC shared that Quetta police and authorities had arrested Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a central leader of the Baloch Unity Committee (BYC), along with her associates, and also seized the bodies of the deceased youths. The committee also mentioned that a crackdown was being carried out on women and children involved in the protest.

The peaceful demonstration took place in the Sariab area of Quetta, protesting the abduction-like arrests of BYC leaders Bebigar Baloch, Dr. Hamal, Dr. Ilyas, Saeed Baloch, and other women. The authorities responded with tear gas, water cannons, and gunfire, leading to the deaths of three Baloch youths and injuring several others. BYC labeled the actions as “state terrorism.” The sit-in had begun on Friday night with the bodies of the slain youths. The police and other agencies attacked the protest early on Saturday, forcibly removing the bodies and arresting Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her associates.

Earlier, Mahrang Baloch had used social media to highlight the ongoing atrocities against the Baloch people. In a video message on Friday night, she announced a shutdown of Balochistan, calling for a strike in protest against the state’s actions.

The Balochistan region is experiencing a prolonged conflict driven by demands for greater political autonomy, control over natural resources, and better living conditions. Baloch nationalist groups are calling for independence or enhanced rights, while the Pakistani government has responded with military intervention.
