International desk: An elderly woman died and at least 30 others were injured after a passenger bus veered off the road and fell into a precipice in the Badulla district of central Sri Lanka on Friday, the police said. The police said the state-run bus service vehicle met with this accident when it fell into a precipice of 10-15 feet, and the injured were taken to the nearby local hospitals.
Road crashes are common in Sri Lanka, especially when it’s raining. One person was killed with 18 others injured when a bus veered off the road and plunged off a cliff on Thursday in North Western Province, and the police said the rainy weather contributed to the accident.
Some 19,740 road accidents were reported in Sri Lanka last year with 2,485 people killed, according to the police.
